Create a textured, cracked and Peeled background from which red & blue-headed birds peer out.
You will build the image up and then add the background. Once the image is completed, you will play with shapes and colours.
The gold encrusted crack splits the aged and frayed background, widening into a hole from which these delightful, pops of colour look out at the world.

Use your domestic sewing machine like a potters wheel and form a bowl or platter shape. Choose an image from several kits available and stitch the picture to your bowl. These can be hung on the wall; they could be framed in a box or set upon a flat surface. You could also stitch a lid for the shape and upon lifting, reveal an artwork.
Sculpting a vessel like a bowl or a platter is a simple process on the sewing machine and is a quirky and different format for any artwork. I have made several vessels using different processes and in this workshop I shall teach you how to make them from ragged cord which you shall stitch on your domestic sewing machine.
The entire vessel is made from fabric and threads using only 3 techniques, namely, ragged cord, fibre embedment using scribble stitch, and free motion machine embroidery.
One of the most delightful aspects of form shaping is that it is ever so slightly unpredictable and very easily manipulated, similar to building a clay pot on the wheel.

The postcard, reminiscent of a bygone age, is a delightful format on which to create an artwork. Choose an image from one of the multiple kits available and stitch your own A4 sized picture. ‘Write’ your message and post it to a friend, frame it, or make another.
Our eyes – the windows to our souls. So much of our expression lies within our eyes. They reflect not only what we feel but can also see what others are experiencing. This workshop focuses on how to interpret that expression while capturing a likeness. You do not need to know how to draw; you do need to know how to see. I will guide you through that “seeing” and together, we shall create an artwork of our eyes.
You will need a 30cm X 15cm colour photograph of your chosen eyes and a similarly sized piece of canvas, a couple of pieces of tracing paper, and an assortment of various threads and pieces of fabric.
You may also wish to paint colour washes onto your canvas before stitching. If so, then you will need a couple of stiff bristle brushes and any water-based colour medium like Inktense by Derwent.
Once your eyes are completed, we shall discuss how to best “frame” your specific piece to display it in the best possible way.
Come, join me, let’s gaze into each other’s eyes!
