Judy Coates Perez - Slow Stitch Meditation Scarf
Berry NSW
Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 August 2023
No previous stitching experience necessary.
“Improvisational slow-stitching became my anti-anxiety therapy to get me through the worst of the pandemic.”
Slow down and find you inner peace with improvisational stitching on linen, while using basic stitching techniques that do not require skilled perfection to create beautiful results. Slow stitching can be like meditation, with the concept of focussing more on the process than the finished result. It is the perfect portable project that you can easily pick up and put down at any time, with very few supplies needed.
In this workshop you will learn how to make clean stop and starts in your lines of stitching without making knots and create an embroidered fabric that looks beautiful on both sides. Learn how easy it is to create visual texture and pattern by changing the direction of stitching, shifting the colors and borrow stitch patterns from the Japanese technique of boro mending. Learn to let go of plans and expectations and work improvisationally letting the design develop organically.
Judy will share the path that led her to slow stitching linen and finding the therapeutic benefits of stitching during the most stressful days of modern life. She’ll provide dozens of images of stitch-work by others to inspire you and video tutorials that will (safely) give you close up views of techniques, as well as step by step process photos of multiple projects from start to finish.
Inspiration overload guaranteed!
